Session 1 — Safety & first shots

60 min · Double-line rotation (24 min shooting block)

Class goal

Archers can shoot — safely, comfortably, and without the coach on every arrow.

  • Know safety rules and line commands
  • Identify team color and basic equipment
  • Shoot independently — no perfect form required, no fear
  • Experience line rotation as part of a team (no scoring yet)

Session timeline

  1. 0–5 min

    Welcome

Introduce the 4-class course and team competition format. Assign Red, Blue, and Green teams (3 archers each).

  2. 5–20 min

    Safety

    • Never point a bow at a person
    • Shoot only with coach permission
    • Line commands: “Shoot!” / “Arrows!”
    • What to do if something goes wrong while drawing
    • How to walk to the targets safely
  3. 20–30 min

    Equipment

Parts of the bow and arrow. How to gear up (glove/tab, arm guard). Team bows stay color-coded all course long.

  4. 30–36 min

    Individual shooting

Every archer shoots with light supervision. Very close targets, low poundage. Split into two sub-lines if space is tight.

Priority: safety and confidence — not accuracy or fine technique.

  5. 36–60 min

    Double-line rotation block

24 minutes of structured rotation. Fixed target zones per team:

    • Red — targets 1–2
    • Blue — targets 3–4
    • Green — targets 5–6

    Cycle: 2 min (6 shooting) → 2 min (3 shooting) → 2 min (retrieve) — repeat 4 times. No scoring.
